Description
Located at 65 Jumel Terrace in Washington Height, the Morris-Jumel Mansion or Morris House was built in 1765, and is the oldest house in the borough. With too much history to mention here, the house is one of the major remaining landmarks of Battle of Harlem Heights ~ designated a New York City Landmark (exterior July 1967) and Interior (May, 1975). The house was purchased by New York City in 1903 and converted into a museum run by the Washington Headquarters Association in 1904. The house is owned by the Department of Parks and Recreation, and is a member of the Historic House Trust.
