Description
The Virginia and Muriel Pless Bldg at 80 Washington Square Park East, part of NYU, began life in 1879 as The Benedick ~ an apartment house exclusively for bachelors. It contains 33 apartments and 4 artists' studios, with rents ranging from $350 to $550 per year. It also was home to "The Sewer Club" but that's a story for another time. The building was designed by McKim, Mead & Bigelow, just months before Stanford White replaced Bigelow.
